We've back! Our regular borrowing sessions are open again and we're looking foward to seeing our members back in the toy library.

We've made a few changes to our service to ensure that during this time of social distancing we can continue to provide a first-class, safe borrowing service to our members and we've reopened our library of over 4,600 toys, games and puzzles to help get you back into the swing of things.

BORROWING SESSIONS now live

  • Regular opening hours have resumed

  • Every Monday 9.30am-3pm, Tuesday 9.30am-1pm, Thursday 9.30am-3pm, Saturday 9.30am-5pm

  • BOOK: Book your 30 minute drop-off/borrow APPOINTMENT through your member site

  • DROP: Leave your returned toys in the DROP ZONE in our hallway to be placed into 7-day quarantine

  • BROWSE: BROWSE our shelves for items to borrow

  • BORROW: Take your toys to the LOANS DESK to be borrowed.

NOTE: To reduce any risk of contamination of toys on our shelves, we kindly ask that you DO NOT open toy bags to look at the toys, unless you will be borrowing these items.

Attending Sessions

  • You will need to first book a 30-minute appointment via the Appointments tab on your Member login for all people (including children) who will visit the session. We will no longer allow walk-ins to our sessions.

  • There are a maximum of 10 appointments available every 30 minutes. This is to ensure that we follow state government guidelines that allow a maximum of 10 people at one time in our indoor space. This figure will likely be revised upwards as restrictions (hopefully!) continue to relax.

  • To help us service all families in our membership we ask that you keep your toy library visit brief and if possible, visit without children.

  • Whilst we encourage you to visit solo, we understand this might not be possible. That's ok, but please make sure you book an appointment spot for each adult and child that will be visiting to ensure we adhere to the 10 person guideline (kids are people too!).

  • Browse our extensive toy collection online via your Member site before your appointment. Try using the Favourites function to make a list of toys you'd like to borrow plus check what's in the library before you come in. This will help keep your visit to the library to your 30 minute appointment slot. Any toy or membership renewals, toy holds, hire toy payments, or non-duty levy payments can also be made online via your Member site prior to visiting.

  • Borrowing limits have been doubled to allow for any returned toys still in quarantine. Please continue to borrow only your regular borrowing allowance. If you are on a Basic or 4-Toy membership you should continue to only have 4 toys at home. You will likely have to return toys to do this.

  • The library will be closed between 12-1pm each day, to allow our staff to clean and sanitise between our morning and afternoon appointment sessions. Please also use the hand sanitiser available at the library door, before entering the toy room. Your health and safely remains our priority.

  • Click and Collect paused for now - We've heard from so many of you that you've LOVED our Click and Collect service while we've been closed for visits. And we're stoked! Sadly, the logistics of running both our regular borrowing sessions plus a Click and Collect service would leave us stretched a bit too thin at the moment. It's possible we'll be able to have both services running together in the future - stay tuned!

  • We will continue to monitor and improve our service each week and for this reason, appointments will only be available up to one month in advance. Follow us on Facebook, Instagram or WeChat to stay up to date with any changes.

Volunteer Duty, Non-duty Levy & Membership Extensions

  • Our toy library can't run without the assistance of our member volunteers and so we're again adding two or three Duty Spots to each 2-hour opening block. Duty volunteers will be counting back and returning to the shelves toys that have been in quarantine for 7 days. There will be no face-to-face tasks performed by Duty Volunteers and social distancing will apply at all times. We do however request that you don't bring children when performing duty at this time. This is to ensure social distancing guidelines are followed and reduce the number of children playing with toys whilst in the library.

  • To help us get up and running we ask that all members either sign up to a child-free roster Duty Spot or pay a $25 non-duty fee to excuse yourself for one term - both these tasks can be done via your Member site. This will ensure that we have both enough volunteers to count back quarantined toys and enough funds to keep your toy library running after our extended closure. To say thanks, if you complete a Volunteer Duty OR pay a non-duty fee you'll get to borrow a bonus toy from our exclusive Duty Toy section

  • We have automatically extended all active memberships by xxxxx weeks to cover the period from late March - early June, that our regular sessions were closed.

  • Our standard borrowing period has returned to 3 weeks, however members can still renew their current toys for another 3 weeks through the online member site

Returning toys

Please clean and count all toys prior to return. Information on how to clean toys is available at www.toylibraries.org.au/cleaning-toys. Please ensure any detergent used is thoroughly removed to prevent toys becoming sticky.

  • If you are only returning toys at this time, book an appointment via our member site in one of the 30 minute slots.

  • Take your toys directly to the 'Drop Zone' in our hallway (no standing while waiting for your toys to be counted!). Toys will be periodically removed from the Drop Zone to our workroom where they will remain in quarantine for 7 days. Following this they will be counted, any missing or broken pieces logged against your account, toys will be returned on our system, then returned to the shelves.

  • Place any loose pieces you have recently found at home in the 'Found Pieces' box near the toy room entry.

We have sanitised and disinfected the working spaces within our rooms and will continue to do so regularly. From Thursday 19 March all returned toys have been quarantined in our workroom for a minimum of 7 days, remaining untouched throughout.

With the forced government closure of many businesses during the COVID-19 pandemic situation, our library and staff, along with many others, have suffered significant losses during this time. In addition, we receive no ongoing funding or support from the local council, governmnt or other sources.

To help us continue to offer a first-class service to you, our members, please consider making a financial donation either online or at session, with all finds going towards the additional running costs of your library. Every little bit helps us keep our service running!

To donate via PayPal or credit card, simply click the banner above or button below - all donations above $2 are tax deductible and will be automatically issued a tax deductible receipt.

Social distancing and health advice

To follow safe social distancing guidelines, if you are planning to visit the library for ANY REASON, either to borrow and pickup, pickup only, or drop off only, you will need to book an appointment to do so. This ensures that we are practising safe social distancing and keeping the health and safety of our library staff, library members and greater community in mind.

If planning to attend toy library please follow government health and social distancing guidelines:

  • Please stay at home if you have been overseas within the last 14 days or have been in contact with overseas visitors.

  • Please stay at home if you are experiencing any cold/flu-type symptoms such as fever, cough, sore throat, shortness of breath.

  • If a member of your family is sick, please keep your toys at home for at least 14 days before return.
