Book your in-library visit today

We're back! Our regular borrowing sessions reopened on Monday 29 June and we're loving seeing our members back in the toy library.

We've made a few changes to our service to ensure that during this time of social distancing we can continue to provide a first-class, safe borrowing service to our members and we've reopened our library of over 4,600 toys, games and puzzles to help get you back into the swing of things.

BORROWING SESSIONS reopen Monday 29 June

  • CLEAN: Members must now CLEAN TOYS before they can be returned

  • BOOK: Book your 30 minute drop-off/borrow APPOINTMENT through your member site

  • DROP: Leave your returned toys in the DROP ZONE in our hallway to be checked and counted later

  • CHECK IN: Visit the desk just inside the front door where we will check with you that you have CLEANED ALL TOYS, BOXES and BAGS prior to visiting

  • BROWSE: BROWSE our shelves for items to borrow

  • BORROW: Take your toys to the LOANS DESK to be borrowed.

Attending Sessions

  • The Department of Health and Human Services' Infection Prevention and Control Unit has provided specific advice to toy libraries including that members must clean toys before returning them. This is now a DHHS requirement so when you return toys we will ask if they’ve been cleaned. If they haven't you’ll need to use our cleaning station to do so. This includes toy bags and boxes. Fabric bags, puzzle sleeves and toy elements should be gently hand or machine washed (please remove any laminated toy labels prior). You can view Toy Libraries Australia's cleaning guidelines here.

  • You will need to book a 30-minute appointment via the Appointments tab on your Member login for all people (including children - kids are people too!) who will visit the session and add their first name to the comments section of the booking. At this time we will no longer allow walk-ins to our sessions to ensure we keep to a maximum of 20 people in our indoor space at one time.

  • To help us service all families in our membership we ask that you keep your toy library visit brief and if possible, visit without children

  • Please only touch toys you're going to take home and don’t remove them from their bags in the library. This will be tough for children excited about new toys, so please chat to them about this rule and keep them close during your visit, or try to come solo.

  • Browse our extensive toy collection online via your Member site before your appointment. Try using the Favourites function to make a list of toys you'd like to borrow plus check what's in the library before you come in. This will help keep your time at the library to your 30 minute appointment slot. There is no need to place Holds on the toys you wish to borrow - just come in and browse directly from our shelves. Any toy or membership renewals, $5 toy holds, hire toy payments, or non-duty levy payments can also be made online via your Member site prior to visiting.

  • Borrowing limits have been doubled to allow for any returned toys still to be counted. Please continue to borrow only your regular borrowing allowance. If you are on a Basic or 4-Toy membership you should continue to only have 4 toys at home. You will likely have to return toys to do this.

  • The library will be closed between 12-1pm on Monday, Thursday and Saturday, to allow our staff to clean and sanitise between our morning and afternoon appointment sessions. Please also use the hand sanitiser available at the front entrance or library door, before entering the toy room. Your health and safely remains our priority.

  • Click and Collect paused from Saturday 20 June - We've heard from so many of you that you've LOVED our Click and Collect service while we've been closed for visits. And we're stoked! Sadly, the logistics of running both our regular borrowing sessions plus a Click and Collect service would leave us stretched a bit too thin at the moment. It's possible we'll be able to have both services running together in the future - stay tuned!

  • We will continue to monitor and improve our service each week and for this reason, appointments will only be available up to one month in advance. Follow us on Facebook, Instagram or WeChat to stay up to date with any changes.

  • We welcome new memberships and ask that you sign up and pay online prior to visiting. If you'd prefer to come into the library to signup, please email so we can arrange this for you.

Volunteer Duty, Non-duty Levy & Membership Extensions

  • Our toy library can't run without the assistance of our member volunteers and so our Duty roster is again available. Duty volunteers will be working mainly in our back workroom counting, checking and returning toys to the shelves. We will check the temperatures of Duty Volunteers at the start of your shift, there will be no face-to-face tasks performed and social distancing will apply at all times. We do however request that you don't bring mobile children when performing duty at this time. Non-mobile Babies in prams or slings are fine. This is to ensure social distancing guidelines are followed and to prevent duty children playing with toys whilst in the library.

  • To help us get up and running we ask that all members either sign up to a child-free roster Duty Spot or pay a $25 non-duty fee to excuse yourself for one term - both these tasks can be done via your Member site. This will ensure that we have both enough volunteers to count toys and enough funds to keep your toy library running after our extended closure. If you have booked a Duty Spot, there is no need to also book an Appointment for the same time period.

  • We have extended all memberships that were current throughout our closure by 14 weeks to cover the period from 23 March to 28 June that we couldn't provide regular sessions. Memberships either due or begun within our closure period have received an extension equal to the number of membership days missed due to our closure.

  • Our standard borrowing period has returned to 3 weeks, however members can still renew their current toys for another 3 weeks through the online member site

With the forced government closure of many businesses during the COVID-19 pandemic situation, our library and staff, along with many others, suffered significant losses during this time. In addition, we receive no ongoing funding or support from the local council, government or other sources.

To help us continue to offer a first-class service to you, our members, please consider making a financial donation either online or at session. Every little bit helps us keep our service running!

To donate via PayPal or credit card, simply click the banner above or button below - all donations above $2 are tax deductible and will be automatically issued a tax deductible receipt.

Social distancing and health advice
